What does the Political Alliance Do? The Political Alliance works in local communities around Western Massachusettsto ensure that Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual and Transgender (LGBT) interests are being servedby our local politicians and to support initiatives that benefit our community. We are building coalitions with local political leaders and educating boththose leaders and ourselves about LGBT civil rights, the political process, and how to become involved. Weresearch and endorse candidates for numerous local elections. Infact, during the most recent Springfield and Northampton municipal elections, over 90% of the candidates we endorsed were successful. We sponsorPublic Forums covering such topics as Hate Crimes and being a GLB candidate. We also led the efforts to have Domestic Partnership benefits availablefor Northampton city employees, and have sponsored annual Voter Registrationdrives.
